Né dans le Michigan, Matthew Baker est l’auteur de plusieurs recueils de nouvelles et d’un roman jeunesse sélectionné pour le Edgar Award. Ses nouvelles ont été publiées dans différents journaux et revues tels que American Short Fiction, New England Review, One Story, Electric Literature et Conjunctions, ainsi que dans les anthologies Best of the Net et Best Small Fictions.
Il a obtenu plusieurs bourses d’écriture prestigieuses (entre autres: the Fulbright Commission, the MacDowell Colony, the Ucross Foundation, the Ragdale Foundation, Vermont Studio Center, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Blue Mountain Center, Prairie Center of the Arts, Djerassi Resident Artists Program, the Sewanee Writers’ Conference et the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference). Il a étudié les Beaux-Arts à la Vanderbilt University de Nashville et vit actuellement à New York.
